DVD TRANSFERS

This listing is for the transfer of the following DVD and CD based video media to digital files to share with family and friends. DVDs also deteriorate over the years and are often more difficult for us to transfer than video tapes. It is in your interest to get the data from them before it is lost.

DVD
We can take the videos you had transferred to DVD long ago and preserve them as digital files. We do not rip or transfer commercial movie DVDs.

CAMCORDER MINI DVDS
These were used in Sony and other camcorders to record direct to small DVDs which could still playback in regular DVD players.

COMMON ISSUES:

DVD RECOVERY
Most discs will either transfer or they won’t due to damage. However, there are situations with camcorder DVDs that people forgot to finalize and assumed they were fine because they could look at the video on the camcorder. We get a lot of these in that were never finalized and it requires us to go through a data recovery process. If we run into this, there will be a recovery fee.

COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL
While you can back up your own store-bought DVD collection at home, as a service, we cannot transfer your commercial DVDs as they are copyrighted material. Our transfers are not intended for commercial purposes nor to infringe on the copyrights of others. There are some “fair use” exceptions that we can help you assess on a case-by-case basis, but it is always best to ask ahead if you are not sure. There is no refund if you send an item that we determine we cannot transfer due to copyright infringement.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO KNOW IF MY DVDs ARE BLANK?
Short of being able to look at them, no. But there are clues. Burned CDs and DVDs usually have a slightly different color between the parts of the discs that have been used and not used.

I STILL HAVE MY PLAYER AND MY DVD IS NOT PLAYING. DOES THAT MEAN IT’S NOT WORTH TRANSFERRING?
Not necessarily. If you pulled out an old player or camcorder that has not been maintained in years or even decades, the playback device itself could be the problem. Also there are some old burned DVD formats that do not play on modern machines. We have gotten items in that would not play for a customer but played well for us because our devices are well maintained.
